The recent massive media coverage of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain gave the impression that it was an all-white affair. The fact is that not only were there Black and Asian Spitfire and Hurricane pilots but there was an extensive African/Caribbean civilian population resident in Britain throughout the war which is to say before the 1948 arrival of the Windrush.
