Your Silence Will Not Protect You

Alice Walker
This lady said it:  "No person is your friend who demands your silence or denies your right to grow".

And remember what Audre Lorde said:  "Your silence will not protect you.  My silence will not protect me".

Our stories have been buried, distorted and misrepresented for too long.  We need to know our history and we need to share it.  It's time to tell the truth.

If you haven't done so yet, click here to download Why We Need to Heal now.  Make sure your share this with your networks.  And please leave your comments below.

Healing Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome

enslaved African men in chains
I am re-purposing this blog post.  Several years ago, Dr. DeGruy Leary gave a lecture in London on Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome.  She has said the same things I have been saying for many years.
We must heal the past. We must heal the internalised racism and oppression, i.e. self-hatred, that has been passed down within Black families for many generations since the enslavement of African people by Europeans began.
This is why I do the work I do. See my book, Success Strategies for Black People, for positive cultural reinforcement for Black parents and families - for all of us.

This is why I compiled
Black Success Stories and the More Black Success ebooks.  For more about this, see: Remember Your Greatness.

What Is Black Love?

This month's Ebony focuses on Black love. And it's great to see President and Mrs. Obama on the cover as an example of Black love.

What is Black love?

Ebony says: "There is enormous energy in every apology delivered, every truth uttered, every embrace held, every abuse checked, every vow honored ...".

To read more, see What Is Black Love?

I think what Des O'Connor is doing is brilliant. To read more, see: Why Can't Successful Black Women Find Good Black Men?

He is helping single Black men and women to meet each other.

But what happens after they meet?

We need to ask some hard questions.

Why do we have such a high incidence of divorce and relationship breakdown in our communities?

Why are so many Black children growing up in single-parent families?

And what are the consequences of this for us as individuals? For our communities? For our children?

We have so much healing to do.

For more info, see "How to Get What You Want in Your Relationships".

Lil Wayne Hates Dark-Skinned Women: Why We Still Need to Heal

Success Strategies for Black PeopleI just saw this: Lil Wayne Boycotted for Hating Dark-Skinned Women.

We have public figures speaking this nonsense, but yet so many of our people are still in denial about why we need to heal.

This is all about self-hatred.

Check out my article series: Why We Need to Heal.

The Effects on Our Families

We often try to deny the effects of what was done to us by slavery and the racist brutality we have suffered.

We say, "I'm okay, I'm all right, we're all right". In other words, we front. This is also known as denial.

This is why I wrote the article "Why We Need to Heal".

When we look at what our ancestors experienced, it is inevitable that this is still having an effect on us, our relationships, our families and our communities.

Sometimes the wounds are so deep, and the pain is so deeply buried, that we don't even realize we are still carrying it. It is unconscious. But it is still there, and it is still having an effect on our lives, our families and our communities.

When we begin to acknowledge this, we can begin to heal it.

For more about how we can begin to heal our relationships, see
How to Get What You Want in Your Relationships, and

Success Strategies for Black People.
