Crisis Deepens - Unemployment Grows - Black Entrepreneurs Must Be Bold!

Bro. Bedford
Go here for a forthcoming new book, Unshakable Leadership, in which I have a chapter.

I am clearing out some old emails and came across this one from author, speaker and business expert Bro. Bedford - FROM 2009!

What do you think?  Are Black entrepreneurs in crisis? And, if so, what should we do about it?  Please post your comments below.

Back when I was a young child we used to love going to haunted houses. Mainly, because of the adrenaline rush you got from a good scare. But today there are things a lot spookier going on than that strange-looking person in the Freddie Kruger costume.

Today, many Americans are scared to death. Not because of any
fake ghouls and goblins, but because of the tremendous impact
the economy is having on their current livelihood.

For those filled with the entrepreneurial-spirit... those who
aren't scared stiff by the "impending doom" being reported on
the news... this time of apparent uncertainty offers an
unprecedented opportunity to build or grow a solid business
fast with minimal downside.

In times of recession and depression it is important to
remember that wealth transfers from the meek to the bold.

The question becomes...

Are you ready to join the ranks of the bold?

Are you ready to join the ranks of entrepreneurs who are not
scared?

Are you ready to join the ranks of the entrepreneurs who are
taking names and making money?

Here is a key point I really want you to get:

If you don't have a successful reference to model yourself
after in business and life... do the opposite of what the
masses are doing.

How does that apply to you and your business?

Well, as corporate America is forced to pinch their pennies,
and hand out pink-slips left and right, you should be preparing
to 'ROCK & ROLL!"

Seriously, you have a choice... you can either grasp and cling
for security like most people are doing or you can be on the
lookout for the opportunities all around you.

But, the challenge is... you can't do both at the same time.

While those that are "nervous" and "scared" are burrowing down,
savvy entrepreneurs are advancing on their goals faster than
ever.

Currently, the unemployment rate is close to 8% and it's
getting worse... For the meek things seem bleak indeed. But,
for the bold, this is an unprecedented opportunity to seize the
moment.

To Your Victory and Success,

Bro. Bedford

Free Advice from Black Business Experts

Melinda Emerson
As I'm sure you know, some of the editions of More Black Success feature advice by Black business experts.

What you may not realise is that all of the Black business experts I have interviewed provide business advice themselves.   You can contact them for advice or for ongoing mentoring and support.

And some of them offer free resources.

I recently tried to donate copies of More Black Success to the City Business Library.  While they were initially very interested, in the end, they did not add MBS to their collection.  I was very disappointed.  However, you can still download MBS here

My own business advice involves using the power of your unconscious mind to help you achieve the results you want.  For more information, see:  How Does This Affect Your Performance

Buy Black: The Empowerment Experiment

I am sure you have heard about Maggie Anderson, the sista who decided she and her family would buy only from Black-owned businesses for one full year.

Anderson expects that her effort to support African American-owned businesses will inspire her community become more active their sometimes struggling neighborhoods.

Anderson wrote about her experience in Our Black Year, her recently published book co-authored by Ted Gregory.  The idea came about because she and her husband John wanted to embark on their dramatic adventure as a means to "inspire economic empowerment."

Forthcoming Our Black Year events include visits to the Association of Black Women Lawyers and the African American Chamber of Commerce.  I am sure you wish her every success, as I do.

Solving the Crisis in the Black Community: Buy Black

See below for a great video on The Empowerment Experiment. They are buying only from Black-owned businesses for one year.

This is about economic empowerment for the Black community. We have enormous buying power, but the Black dollar and the Black pound fly out of our communities in the blinking of an eye.

Do we see our Black businesses as viable? Do Black people buy Black? If not, why not?

Black Business Success: What U Need to Know Preview

I recently recorded a preview of March 12th's edition of What U Need to Know, which will focus on Black business success. To listen to it, see below.

I talked about a recent interview with Cathy Hughes in which she described how people will try to discourage business owners, even when these people have our best interests at heart. She said,
In my case it was my mother, I can’t tell you…my mother would
cry, she would beg me, “Please get a government job, you’re in
Washington D.C. You’re smart and people like you, Give Up!
You’re sleeping on a floor in a sleeping bag. Cathy, people
think you’ve lost your mind; they think you’ve had a nervous
breakdown, what’s wrong with you. Go get a good Government job and stop trying…”

My mother was not trying to stop me from being a successful Entrepreneur, she was worried about me, and she was scared for me. I had lost everything to try to hold on to this business and she was ready for me to throw in the towel out of love and
protection. But guess what? It was also so discouraging.
